The end of slavery (and thus separation of whitesand blacks) “is the only perfect preventive of amalgamation.” The reasoningwas based on the frequency of mulatto births arising from slaves and theirmasters in comparison to the number of mulatto births that were among freestates. The mixing of the blood was occurring because the Negroes and whiteswere in forced contact. The elimination of an almost universal fear was yetanother argument for the separation of the races.Although he was not a ‘modern day’ civil right’s activist,Lincoln’s logic eventually led to the abolition of slavery, tragicallydriving the nation into a state of civil war. However, the American idealswhich he embraced have made their way into our modern societies standardsleading to civil right’s programs which are constantly being reformed.Immigrants, of all nationalities and colors now look to America as a symbolof great ideals.
Abraham said more prophetically than he could imagine thatthe American ideals of freedom should be “constantly spreading and deepeningits influence, and augmenting the happiness and value of life to all peoplesof all colors everywhere.” As a result of his push for the preservation ofthe American ideal of freedom, slavery no longer exists and is even consideredunconstitutional on the grounds that it is in direct contradiction with theconception that “all men are created equal.”.

In Nora Helmers Character
Topics Share Essay on A Doll S House A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play that was written ahead of its time. In this play Ibsen tackles womens rights as a matter of importance. Throughout this time period it was neglected. A Doll House was written during the movement of Naturalism, which commonly reflected society.
Ibsen acknowledges the fact that in 19th century life the role of the woman was to stay at home, raise the children and attend to her husband. Nora Helmer is the character in A Doll House who plays the 19th woman and is portrayed as a victim. Michael Meyers said of Henrik Ibsens plays: The common denominator in many of Ibsens dramas is his interest in individuals struggling for and authentic identity in the face of tyrannical social conventions. This conflict often results in his characters being divided between a sense of duty to themselves and their responsibility to others.
All of the aspects of this quote can be applied to the play A Doll House, in Nora Helmers character, who throughout much of the play is oppressed, presents an inauthentic identity to the audience and throughout the play attempts to discovery her authentic identity.

Contenting Himself With That For
Topics Share Essay on Don Quixote Don Quixote”DonQuixote.” Where and when that was written, we cannot tell. After his imprisonment all trace of Cervantes in his official capacity disappears, from which it may be inferred that he was not reinstated. That he was still in Seville in November 1598 appears froma satirical sonnet of his on the elaborate catafalque erected totestify the grief of the city at the death of Philip II, but from thisup to 1603 we have no clue to his movements. The words in thepreface to the First Part of “Don Quixote” are generally held to beconclusive that he conceived the idea of the book, and wrote thebeginning of it at least, in a prison, and that he may have done so is extremely likely. There is a tradition that Cervantes read some portions of his workto a select audience at the Duke of Bejar’s, which may have helpedto make the book known; but the obvious conclusion is that the First Part of “Don Quixote” lay on his hands some time before he couldfind a publisher bold enough to undertake a venture of so novel a character; and so little faith in it had Francisco Robles of Madrid,to whom at last he sold it, that he did not care to incur theexpense of securing the copyright for Aragon or Portugal, contenting himself with that for Castile. The printing was finished inDecember, and the book came out with the new year, 1605.
It is oftensaid that “Don Quixote” was at first received coldly. The facts showjust the contrary. No sooner was it in the hands of the public thanpreparations were made to issue pirated editions at Lisbon andValencia, and to bring out a second edition with the additionalcopyrights for Aragon and Portugal, which hesecured in February.
